Daisy’s Big Parade started out as a simple attempt to write a song. It was 2020 and we were all on lockdown due to the pandemic. One day, I was out for my daily run, listening to a podcast and heard a 30 second clip of a Rikki Lee Jones song. I hadn’t heard of her before, but all it took was 30 seconds to hook me. I went home and immediately purchased her debut album. I instantly fell in love with that bluesy, 70’s sound and I now had the inspiration to write my song. I had always loved writing poetry, so lyrics came naturally to me. Chord progressions and song structure was a little out of my comfort zone, so I started experimenting with basic blues progressions to kickstart my song. The song that came out was the opening track on the album- “Daisy”. I had done it! I had written a song! Little did I know that the muse wasn’t done using me yet. From the beginning, I always felt like something else was guiding me and coaxing me along on this journey. Call it God, the Universe, the muse…whatever it is, I always felt like I had been invited to participate in something bigger than myself. All I had to do was say yes. Never in a million years could I have ever imagined I had an entire album in me. I actually don’t even feel like it came from me. I feel that these songs and this story were given to me. It was a gift. Now, I am honored to share this gift with you with my debut album “Daisy’s Big Parade “.
Daisy’s Big Parade is about the internal struggle between being who you are and who the world tells you to be. The two main characters in the story are Daisy and Anna Lee. They are in fact, the same person. Daisy is the mask we put on to please the world. Daisy seeks fame, fortune, attention and will mow down anyone in her path to get it. She is a reckless addict who cares about one thing- herself. Daisy wants the world to adore her. She wants her big parade.
On this record, Daisy is represented by the bluesy band pieces. The first three tracks give us a good glimpse at the loose cannon that Daisy is. It’s not until track 4 that we start to see the other side of Daisy, the side she does not want the world to see- Anna Lee.
Anna Lee is fully revealed to us in track 5. We see the scared little girl that lives inside of Daisy. We start to peel away the layers to reveal Daisy’s true self, the side she tries so desperately to hide from the world.
”Goes Down Easy” shows us Daisy’s inability to love herself and the refusal to let anyone truly love her. She does not feel worthy of being loved.
The title track “Big Parade “ followed by “Animal “ deal with Daisy’s reflection on her troubled, traumatic past. This leads us into “Mr. Reaper “ as Daisy starts her transition from life to death. The spoken word and chorus represent Daisy’s soul and guardian angel.
The album concludes with the return of “Big Parade “. This version is stripped down to voice and piano. This is meant to show that no matter how much we gain in this world, all we are left with in the end is our true self. The parade, no matter how big it is, has to end eventually.
“The lonely twilight settles in, to force the streets to work again, like a sad love story’s last line “
Daisy’s Big Parade is scheduled to be released on Friday, August 30th, 2024 on all streaming platforms!
Mike Effenberger provided B3 and piano on all of the full band tracks. His instincts and musicianship are second to none.

In March of 2025, I will celebrate 10 years without a drink. Without my sobriety from alcohol, this album would never had happened.
